1 November — Hurricanes and Climate Change
Date: 1 November 2021
Time: 12:00pm ET
Location: Wean Hall 3701 & via Zoom
Speaker: Dr. Kerry Emanuel
Topic: Hurricanes and Climate Change
Abstract: Hurricanes are globally among the most destructive and lethal of natural phenomena, and it is therefore important that we come to understand how climate change might affect these terrible storms. In my talk, I will review what is known about hurricanes and present up-to-date evidence about how both natural and human-induced climate change affects these storms, reviewing theory, model results, and observations. I will also describe contemporary research suggesting that the response of hurricanes to climate change may not be passive; indeed, these storms may prove to be critical components of the climate system.
