Abstract: Electric power companies face unique challenges and tradeoffs as they strive to manage financial, environmental and social performance, while providing safe, clean, reliable and affordable power. Growing attention to corporate transparency, disclosure, and opportunities to improve sustainability performance are driving increasing interest in understanding how electric power companies can strategically address sustainability issues. But what does sustainability actually mean and what sustainability issues should the electric power industry be focusing on? This seminar will begin to answer these questions with a look at EPRI’s portfolio of sustainability research – and specifically a recent study to understand priority sustainability issues for the electric power industry – executed in collaboration with our Energy Sustainability Interest Group, a collaborative of 45 electric power companies in the United States and Canada.
