This talk will focus in part on fire-adapted forests as a case study. These are interesting because, like many disturbance-adapted ecosystems such as rivers, coastlines, and grasslands, they go through natural episodic cycles of renewal. However, when climate envelopes shift recovery may be constrained, leaving the question of whether these systems can be restored to their previous state, or whether they are going to reorganize into novel configurations.
