Topic: Is your grid ready? The convergence of renewables, energy storage, and electric vehicles!

Abstract: The grid of the future will be expected to be reliable and resilient while delivering affordable electricity to all citizens.  There are several important trends that may dramatically change how we manage and operate the electric grid infrastructure. These trends include the wide-scale deployment of distributed and intermittent renewable generation, the reduction of baseload power generation, the electrification of the transportation sector and the potential deployment of low-cost grid energy storage.   This overview presentation draws on recent PNNL research and field experience evaluating the performance and value proposition of large-scale energy storage on the grid, the impact of vehicle electrification on the grid and the grid system challenges that will need to be addressed over the next decade.
