David Luke Oates
David Luke Oates is a fourth year Ph.D. student in CMU’s Department of Engineering and Public Policy. He holds an undergraduate degree in Engineering Physics from Queen’s University (Canada). He is interested in understanding the interactions between renewable energy technologies and policies and the conventional generators that make up the bulk of capacity in most power systems. As a member of the RenewElec project team, David Luke is studying the effect of wind variability on the cycling of coal-fired power plants. He is also examining the implications of improving flexibility in plants equipped with carbon capture and storage.
